More breaks« on: June 07 2004 02:06:00 »
This place has tonnes of empty waves, I spent my time 2 months in san juan del sur and all of my local friends know where are the great breaks. There are like 10 wicked breaks within an hour of san juan so check it out and enjoy

Wow, I went to Nicaragua 3 years ago and it was paradise. Lots of uncrowded surf. I just got back and what a change. The spots accessable by car are just packed with surfers, so I hired a boat and went to the less known spots and found crowds also!!! Wound up surfing with 4 other boatloads of surfers. Waves seemed quality with no one else out three years ago, but traveling thousands of miles to fight crowds for semi-closed out beach breaks is not my idea of fun. Thanks Surfer Magazine!!!

I grew up in Nicaragua, for the past 5 year surfers have come and raped the country. I will never tell any surfers about any breaks, if they ask me I will give them the wrong directions. Surfer mags suck. stick to you own grownd.
if you come to nica,
good luck gringo

gabriel why and what are you doing on this site? If you hate surfer's and surfer mag's, as you put it, why are you checking out this site.......can't figure out why you're talking this way?

I agree with you. I was just in Nica in April and it is alarming at how fast the s coast is being bloated with surfers that are trying to buy land and start up "surf camps". I got plenty of waves but there were days where it was crowded. It left a weird taste in my mouth. At first I did not know what I thought about it. On one hand more gringos=more money going to the locals. BUT, I do think there is an unhealthy rate at which the area is developing (Costa Rica on steroids?) I am going back in a few days to the N coast...hope it is a little different. I also agree with keeping those "secrets" secret. Work for your empty waves. Just my opinion.

Keeping secrets notwithstanding, I am arriving on the 18th and plan to start at Corinto and explore my way down the coast, if I can find a board to rent somewhere other than San Juan that is. I've been to Nica 5 times since 2001, lots of family there but haven't really been anywhere on the coast other than SJDS and Montelimar. Any insight would be appreciated.

Your stoked your going to Corinto first! If there is a good swell the island in front of the town can be good. I just bought some property 10-20 min boatride north. All I can say is there are plenty of uncrowded (as in nobody) waves around that area. A guy named Shay has a few rooms to rent. He is near the new marina to the north and seems like a real good guy. Ask anyone where the Marina is and you should be able to get there via rented boat or by taxi in Chinendega.

What is up with Nica?
I have no idea...i just want to go surf some uncrowed waves in paradise...is this too naive?
My friend wants to go to JJ Yema's surf camp...sounds like a bad idea...or is it?
Many opinions to listen to, but non are my own.
Should i just go to Costa? Crowds are expected right?
