Spots near UC Berkeley« on: January 30 2006 07:01:00 »
Hi! I'm a surfer from the Philippines who might end up studying in UC Berkeley this September. Are there any good spots near there?
I'm used to surfing in tropical weather. Are the surf spots around there cold?

Thanks, Bairman. :) Great to hear that. Was getting worried that I wouldn't be able to surf while at grad school.

it's about a 3 hour drive to Santa Cruz, but totally worth it when you really need a fix. I never tried SF though. Go Bears~!

Surf Ocean beach in SF if you want big heavy beachbreak during the winter. Pacifica is also pretty good, and try Montera during the summer. Don't waste your time driving all the way to Santa Cruz, its a pretty long drive from UCB.

This all sounds pretty accurate. I've been a surfering Northern CA for about 4 years and originally from Oceanside CA. The waves are good up here but have yet to find surf buddies in Berkeley. Let me know if any out there wants to meet for a surf. BT.
