Where to go?« on: February 26 2014 12:02:00 »
So the boyfriend and I are planning to go to Portugal for a week and learn to surf in June. We've both only tried it once before and I see myself as a complete novice whilst he seems to think he's a fast learner and will be fine with bigger swells (typical man). We would like to find a little apartment of our own and hire surf equipment from a shop and arrange lessons as and when we feel we need it (mainly for me) so not keen on surf camps, we'd also like to be able to go out for nice meals and see what else Portugal has to offer - I'm not asking for much. I've read that the algarve is better for beginners and warmer so was thinking somewhere there but the boyfriend might complain that the waves aren't big enough so it would be great if anyone can offer some advice on where to stay and where to surf - we'll be hiring a car so can drive around to different spots. Thanks!

Hi Portugal is awesome and you guys will have a blast. Yea it can be a problem trying to find a that fits what surfers like yourself are looking for in terms of accommodation, I recommend trying homeaway.com or airbnb.com for your apartment - they work really well, A friend and I are working on www.live-swell.com to connect surfers with great rentals near great surf break... it still a bit of a work in progress, but we are aiming to help.
