Need cheap, family friendly surf spot February-March

Hi,
We are planning to take our 2.5 year old on a month long surf trip this coming winter. My husband is a good surfer, but I like waves under 5 feet, and more crumbly than crashy.

Mexico has gotten too expensive. Looking for someplace warm, and non-crowded (ok, well not super crowded) where there is some civilization nearby (hospital, food supplies, etc). A country without too much banditry and political unrest...

Any ideas? THANKS!

all these posts about Nicaragua seem sooooo faKE!!! people, it ain't no safe paradise that all these new homeowners are trying to dope this forum with fake questions and "inform" you about. yeah, the nica govt is open for business, but I wouldn't take my kids or the woman i love there. I wouldn't take my iPod there. The place is seething with hatred for gringos and all they represent. BEWARE...

come stay with us www.surfmasachapa.webnode.com, and I am a Gringo that lives in Nicaragua and feel safer here than I do in Florida. I married a Nica and there is no way I want my kids growing up in schools with american problems like shootings, stabings, getting jumped while being white in the hallway. America is the most dangerous violent country in the world a shooting every minute. I don't care how many people live there, there are more people dying from guns in America than in the war in the middle east. Come to Nicaragua and forget about your troubles and bring 5 bucks in case you feel like spoiling yourself.

hi!
Nicaragua is very safe. Iguana beach and Rancho santana are both very nice places to stay in. San juan is beautiful , look for hotels there , or some places to rent. there is also a nice golf resort in iguana. i recall some surfers spent like a month living there. there are all types of homes available for rent. they have volleyball , a pool , and the beach is at a walkable distance.Nice waves. With that said , nicaraguans are very friendly ,generous and welcoming. Yes , if you misplace your ipod on the street you will never see it again , but that happens EVERYWHERE. personally what i like about beaches in nicaragua is that you basically have them for yourself. They are not crowded at all.  i think that if you get to know Nicaragua you will like it.
