Westport & Ballina surfing in December?

I am an expert surfer coming over on a business trip to Ballina and Westport 12/12 to 12/19.  Is it worth trying to find surf this time of year?  I have the rubber for the cold but would want to rent a board somewhere and where?  I would guess there would be some decent size.  I can handle any wave and size and a regular-foot short boarder.
I will be in Ballina by the 9th and Westport by the 12th.

RE: Westport & Ballina surfing in December?

hi mark, the nearest beach to ballina is enniscrone, a nice easy beach break, further on from that toward sligo, you have strandhill (which can be very good sometimes, another breach break) and easkey, rock reef break, i believe easkey has more challenging waves, you can check out wannasurf. com for spot info and msw for seasonal data, to answer your question, december is one of the best months for it, you should get a wave, as long as the winds dont mess you up, i think you can rent a board in enniscrone, which is about 15 mins from ballina, i think theres a surf shop there anyway and theres definitely a surf school in strandhill, so they might rent you a board, you could google them to ask...
not sure about westport, havent heard much about surfing there..... good luck,

RE: Westport & Ballina surfing in December?

Hi All, I know this post is old and mark has come and gone!
(hope you got sorted Mark) . . I know of two good websites for future visits:
1. www.ballinalive.com < great website when visiting Ballina, Accommodation & Night life, live music etc.

2. www.enniscroneonline.com < This website you will get sorted with suits boards etc. Enniscrone is becoming one of the more popular places for surfing in the north west and is only 10 mins max from Ballina

Yours in surf!
